Main task evaluation

My Magazine, Digital , is aimed at the new wave of Indi fans. The reason I choose the name Digital is because the new style of music is quite techno and digitally enhanced, so I think the name, Compared with others from the same style is very catchy and Exciting and the style i used is in a digital style font so it goes with the style and genre of the magazine like Kerrang does. Also for the Magazine I choose these specific images the reason I choose these images is because of the way the two lads are looking towards the camera which helps to attract the reader and in the other pictures the way they are dressed and the way they are stood and positioned are appropriate to the article and the text in the magazine, compared to other magazines such as NME this is similar as the front cover is always has the artist looking directly at the camera and has the pictures that are appropriate to the article.
I feel like my Magazine challenges a lot of the typical stereotypes as the colour scheme is Black and Red which is portrayed throughout the magazine and you don’t normally get this is other magazines for example NME has lots of different colours spread all around the magazine. Also my magazine has had a Band choose the font of their name as it will be a trademark for that band, and normal magazine don’t allow them to do this so we are giving the artist a lot of freedom. The questions that are asked are different to the questions of a normal magazine as they are quite humorous and are jovial whereas form a run of the mill Electro rock type magazine you will expect the article to be a lot more serious. But in other ways the magazine is very similar. For Example the picture format, as they are both looking right at the camera on the front cover and in the main page they are having fun and are more fun and in the contents the pictures are making them want to read more about the band.
This is similar to magazines like NME and Kerrang as they do the same style of picture in their magazines.
The Genre of my Magazine is aimed at Electro Style indie, It is aimed at a new age of indie as they style of music is mostly electronic with a rock Core, the reason I choose this genre is because I think this will be a huge genre over this year. The images and Picture help to show that this is aimed at more of an adult style genre as the images are quite aggressive and the style of questions may not be appropriate to a younger audience. this shows that with a Rock style magazine they appreciate the more aggressive side of things.
The type of media store that would stoke my magazine would be things like WHSmiths, and Stores like HMV as, For WHSmiths they store lots of different varieties of magazine, and because my magazine is not too outrageous and no not Hardcore, it would be perfect for that sort of shop, I think they would like to stock this magazine as it is a magazine that would attract a new style of audience and a new type of person, This would appeal to the owners of WHSmiths and make them want to stock the magazine. Also Specialist Stores would want to store them as they are a new genre that lots of people will be getting into so if they have that type of magazine the income off those magazine would be great, and the new style of audience into their shop could increase business massively. So they would want to stock it
My Target audience would be a 25 year old Fashionable male in the class of C2 to D as the adverts in the magazine would be for fashionable and new type clothes with quite outrageous style; this is because it is the type of clothes that the artists wear. Also they should be individualists as they need to be seen as 'different', this is all in Equilibrium with the style of the magazine. This is similar to the way most of the magazines I read as they all try to appeal to their target audience and have adverts that appeal to the style of what they think the reader will like.
I tried to appeal to the younger audience by not using to complex terms and by not over flooding the magazine with boring text and no pictures, so that the younger audience can relate to the band and see and try to copy their style, this is similar to in NME where they try to use as many pictures as they can, this is for the same reason as why I do it, as you need to keep the reader interested. Also the way I wrote the questions is in a more jovial style for the younger audience which again should keep them reading.
The Publications that I used in this project helped to enable all of the ideas that I wanted to come into reality, for example on the front cover the style of writing and the layout was achieved Adobe In Design , and without that system this may not have been possible, also they styling to the pictures is very important to have the computer software as without it I would not have been able to create shading ect.
In the progression for preliminary task I think that I have improved dramatically, the reason for this is because I think the way the design phase went in my planning went a lot better and I had a lot more ideas, Also I think that I knew a lot more about the software I was using so this helped me to create a better more styled magazine. Also the language I used is a lot more appropriate to the target audience. It's also more sophisticated when it needs to be. Another way I think I improved was in the Styling of the magazine as it flows more with the theme's of the magazine and the same style runs through the whole magazine. I also planned more thoroughly for my pieces which helped to create an overall better magazine

Planning and evaluating of an Article
In the magazine rock sound, issue 114 October 2008, the Article about Fall Out Boy, I found that this article was quite humorous as they use quotes like 'I feel like, As an artist, I need to deliver a jolt of reality to people' but it also delivers facts about the band, as is a very good interview, but they base the interview as more of an essay where there is no question/answer type format, this is good as it suits the rough style of the magazine. Mine on the other hand is defiantly set out as a question and answer as I feel it makes it look more like an interview and not just a boring load of lines. But again there are some similarities for example the light jovial style in which the interview was based. Also with the colourings with this interview it is very red white and blue to show the heritage of the band, and to back up the point on the jovial side the pictures are all fun/silly pictures this is different to mine as the pictures are very serious to help prove the style of the music and to help attract the readers by looking straight down the camera, and the colour scheme I used, goes with the style of the magazine i.e. black and red.
Also in the same Rock Sound magazine there is another interview with Kids in Glass houses. This interview is a little different from the first as instantly you can see that the colour scheme is very toned down and is very dull compared to the other one. And the format of the page is very different as there is a defined question and answer style to it. but again there is a definite comedy side to it as you can see the lead singer smoking a joint and coughing it all back up and it also says 'I still think the prophets are rocking the sexy - and tom Jones is still very shaggable!' which is a definite side of humour, and the picture above the main text is them reading a piece of text and laughing. I think this extract is a lot more similar to mine than the other one as the format of the question answer is very much like mine. And also the humour starts to come through in mine also they style of question is very similar to mine ' a lot of your style is quite 80's, but is that your favourite decade.' so for this reason I will try to base my article on something similar to this.
My Article: This Is a New cutting edge band, who play electric rock, they try to mix there styles with indie and rock as they feel they bring a new kind of music to the scene!! So Guys welcome to Digital magazine, Its an honour to have you here as you are becoming a huge band! “Yea Thanks for having us we are really excited to be here.”
So Tell us about your new Album ‘Divine Inspirations’ “Well This album was inspired from a trip that we had when we went Skiing in the USA, and we heard some tracks out there that we really enjoyed so we decided to try and use that genre of music to inspire us, and create a few of the tunes on the album. And most of the album is mostly from personal experience and what we enjoy from life!”What brings you Chaps to dress the way you do, as I feel that it is different form anything I have seen before, as you Dom seem to wear University style clothing, where as Tom you see, to be more about rock clothes and things like that? “Well we have no specific look for the band so maybe that could be it for us as we seem to just wear what we like and people will interpret in what ever whey that they want, I (Dom) just wear what I feel comfortable in, and it seems to look good ha-ha, And me (Tom) just wear what ever I can , and what ever I have at the time to wash, So we don’t think we have a style, but maybe that is a style within its self ! And our style is not having a specific style!”
So have you had any Band Injuries? ‘um not really , oh Yea I have a huge cut on my leg from an excited fan , but apart from that we seem to have come off quite lightly! You Guys are both at university; does this affect your music as you are spending a lot of your time studying? “No we don’t think this effects us much as most of the time we create our music outside of uni hours, so even on the weekends we don’t make much music, and plus we don’t have many hours at uni anyway, so we get pumped when we are at uni as we are both studying music anyway so it gets us ready to create the music when we leave uni and get home.”
When you lads are at home what the thing you do to Relax is?
“Well we are both huge fans of our huge TV , so that seems to occupy most of our time, But if we are not watching that we both enjoy a lot of sports like, Skiing, Surfing, Football and Rugby!
So we are really sporty Lads!!
Who musically are your biggest inspirations?
I think that there are a lot of big bands out there who inspire us, like we enjoy people like Enter Shikari as I think They have got really catchy, upbeat and electro style of music which we love and try to incorporate into some of out songs, But there is also bands like Kiss as they were so individual for there time and I think we are so different that we can relate to some of there songs. Are you guys thinking about playing at any Festivals this year?
“Well we have both been going to festivals for a very long time so we enjoy them massively, we would be amazed if we were asked as we are a reliably new band on the scene, but it would be an honour for us to play at a big festival and a huge ambition for the band!”
Thanks for joining us today Guys!
Cheers for having us
I find that this article is very Professional as it is questions that people wish to ask, and things that people want to know. Also in comparison to what the other magazines have written I feel like mine is just as good as theirs for things like content and things like that. Also the humour side of my article helps the reader to enjoy and makes the magazine a lot easier to read. This in comparison to the rest, I think is slightly different and slightly better as it lightens up the article which makes it better for the reader

Evaluating of the Editing of my pictures
2.For the second picture I created the picture I needed just simply by cropping it the reason for this is because the way I took the photo's were just as i needed them for the look of the magazine so i didnt need to alter them very much. for this i also changed the shape when its in the magazine
3.For this picture I made it look as if it was bluured the reason I did this is because the look of the picture on its own didnt look correct so when i applyed the blur it made it look much better and more profesional
4.For this picture it was created for my double page spread so I
5.For my final picture I again Cropped it to create the look that i needed and also I made it into an
unusual shape to keep with the theme of my magazine.

Main Photo's
1. This photo , is used in my contents page, I used this photo because it shouws the band relaxing and chilling out which, helps to emphasise the bands style of music. Also with one of them looking into the camera and on not, this shows the attitude of each of the members as one is confident and postive whilst the other is shy and looking away from the camera. I have not done any effects to my photos as i feel they are good enough with out any effects2
, this photo is of on of the band members , he would be classified as the lead of the band as he writes and creates all of the music , i choose this photo as it shows alot about the bands style and relates well to my article, also having his instrument in his hand helps as it helps to show the style of music of the band, on this photo created it to be kind of blurry as i think this makes the picture come out of the photo alot more and creates a better look for the photo.3. This photo i have used for the main picture on the double page spread the reeason for this is
that it catches the readers attention by them looking at the camera. And again with them both having their instuments in their hands helps to reiterate the style of music that they create. also the clothes they are using goes very well with the colour schemes of the magazine , so it all goes together very well.4. This photo is my main Front cover picture, I choose this because, with them staring down the lense it helps to grab the readers attention and makes people look at the magazine. also the colours again match with my colours used in the front cover. and throughout the magazine so it makes it look good and organised and also with the style of the magazine this goes well.
5. This phot is in my magazine next to the question about the band injurys the reason i put it there is beacuse it is one of the lads leg it goes well with the article. also it helps the reader to ge
t a better understanding of the band and how they look and feel.

Main Task - Flat Plans
This Front cover I think is good as the direct look on the face of the band help to make them appeal to the reader more , also they are not smiling which will show you that they are not a pop star type band, when the pictures are taken , also the Headline at the top of the page will be in a digital style which goes with the theme of the magazine, And the Tag line underneath Or imbetween the picture says Stare in the eyes of sucsess whcih works as they are staring directly down the lense of the camera
This contents page is good i think as the pictures within the writing works well and creates a flow within the magazine , the Camera style pictures on the side will not be there in the magazine as I thought you the target audience would not appriciate it as it seems to be aimed for a bit more of a Pop magazine and doesnt really work with a rock mag. and again the Digital logo on the top is again the the digital font which makes it look better.
The First side of my double page spread is The first word in the band name and half of the picture in which the band will be sitting on a sofa with their instruments , this is good as it goes against the normal idea of a magazine and i have only seen it done once in the nme magazine , but it shows them relaxing and you do not normally see this side of a band , also all of the tag lines will be in the same font as the title on the front page to make it look better , and the second page is he continuation of the first as it has got the rest of the picture on it where they are on the sofa, it also has the second half of there name which again is in the Bladeline font which shows there spikey personality and it also contributes to the whole theme of the magazine as it doesnt look like a pop magazine as it is sharp and kind of agressive, also the added picture in the corner of the two pages goes well as they can blend in

Main Task - FONTS
There are specific fonts that I wish to use on my front cover, contents page, the title Which will be on the front page on the top and on the title of the contents page and the title of the double page spread. This font is, Bladeline which matches the title of digital, and looks modern and chic, this will be used throughout the magazine to make it look alot sharper and better in quality. For the Font for the text I will use Times New Roman as I think this is probably the easyiest to read and the most clear for the public. this font will be used throughout the smaller print of the magazine as, it will make the magazine look neater and alot better in general. For the Bands name I will do a diffrent fon this is because I think the magazine should have a set font that it is trademarked for, so the band name should be in a diffrent font so it can be differentiated. the font I will use for the band name is Body Hunter which makes the bands name look alot more indie and better.
